SWBF3.de: What was the problem with SWBF3? Why Lucas Arts ended the contract with Free Radical? Was there a specific problem? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: I do not know. However due to the legal implications both parties needed to agree to the ending of the contract, otherwise one party would have been in breach (and any court proceedings would have probably been publicised). SWBF3.de: Did you send anything to Lucas Arts at the end of the contract between LucasArts and Free Radical? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: Personally, no. I was informed a number of assets were delivered to LucasArts at the end of the contract, however I do not know exactly what these were. SWBF3.de: So it would be possible that some code fragments or objects of your SWBF3 version are taken for the new SWBF3? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: What I ment by that statement - in game production assets are items usually refers to art or design (i.e. a game's assets). Code, engine utilities or tools are not included in this. SWBF3.de: Did CrytekUK buy any code of the Game when FRD was sold? For example the "space ground" technology? (of course we know, that CrytekUK isn't working on SWBF3) Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: I was no longer at the company at that time. You would need to follow the sale of the assets of the company, or possibly contact the administrators for what exactly was purchased at that time. SWBF3.de: We found some pictures of the Xbox360 version. Are these pictures real? Can you maybe tell us anything about the "Galactic Conquest" modus? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: They look like concepts or work in progress shots to me. SWBF3.de: Do you know anything about these concepts? Were they taken into your SWBF3 or were they removed? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: As for the concepts, I do not know where they were being used or developed within the overall project. Similar looking graphics were used as place holders for loading screens. Again, anything more would be speculation. SWBF3.de: Have you added some new planets? Anything that wasn't seen in SWBF2? Or anything that wasn't seen in the films? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: Any planets that were created or designed all belonged and existed in the StarWars mythos. Nothing new was added (however I am no star wars buff, so I may have missed something). SWBF3.de: We have seen some pictures of SWBF4. Did you worked on SWBF4 as well? Can you tell us anything about your plans for SWBF4? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: I did not work on this, so I had no plans. SWBF3.de: We got a short statement of another ex Free Radical emplyee. He said, that Free Radical was really working on SWBF4. Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: It seems that the other person may have been speculating a little. [...] BF4 was signed (to the best of my knowledge although they may have been developing the idea awaiting approval and funding from LucasArts) and was later put on hold. Details I do not know as I was not attached to the project in anyway. SWBF3.de: Who is Shara, the bounty hunter? How she was added to the story? Can you tell us anything about her? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: Generic love interest - it was not the sort of project that aimed to give deep emotional contact with characters. Remember Free Radical was known for its great multiplayer design. SWBF3.de: We have seen some pictures of a "Dark Obi Wan" (Der aktuelle Stand um Battlefront 3). Are these pictures linked to SWBF3? How did you add a dark Obi Wan into the game? Can you tell us a little bit about the story? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: They are not linked. I had nothing to do with these. SWBF3.de: So no Dark Obi Wan for SWBF3? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: As far as I can remember (it was over a year ago now!) there was no reference to any thing out of canon within the story, so Dark Obi was not apart of the project. SWBF3.de: Was it possible to destroy the big main-ships? In SWBF2 you can destory some systems, but you can't destroy the hole ship. Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: Yes. SWBF3.de: The scheduled release date was 3/15/09, right? How many percent of the game were already finished, as Lucas Arts ended the contract? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: I was not aware of any release date. However, remember that even if a product is completed it may not get to market. Any product, especially involving a property, such as this, will probably need to have a marketing budget in place - probably equaling the initial cost of producing it. SWBF3.de: Some ex Free Radical emplyees wrote us to delete some pictures beginning december. One of them told us, that all screenshots have to be deleted until 11th december (one day before the Video Game Awards). Do you no anything about it, why we had to delete the pictures until "11th december"? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: No idea. If someone requested an image be removed due to copyright infringement, I do not know why they would give a date for the republishing of work. SWBF3.de: In SWBF2 we could choose specific classes (5) to play as a normal troop, as a rocket troop, as a sniper and so on. Can you tell us anything about theclass selection in your SWBF3 version? Have you added some new classes? Ex Free Radical Mitarbeiter: Same thing as the previous one. As mentioned in your questions, mobility was the focus of this project. |
